Start with the project

A garage cleanout, a kitchen remodel, and a roof replacement create very different loads. Write down what you are removing and share that list with your rental company. Photos can help them estimate the volume.

Understand cubic yards

Dumpster sizes describe volume in cubic yards. A 10-yard container is often considered for smaller cleanouts, while 20- and 30-yard containers provide more room for renovation debris. Dimensions vary by company, so ask for the actual length, width, and height.

Weight matters, too

A bigger container does not mean every material is allowed to fill it to the top. Concrete, dirt, shingles, and other heavy debris may require a smaller container or a separate weight allowance. Tell the company about heavy materials before ordering.

Confirm before booking

Ask about container dimensions, included weight, prohibited materials, rental duration, and extra charges. The company can recommend a size based on the details of your job. Never load above the marked fill line.
